Originally designed and patented in 1901, by American inventor King Camp Gillette, with the assistance of William Nickerson, Gillette realised that huge profits could be made by selling an inexpensive safety razor with disposable blades to replace the traditional 'cut-throat' style. We doubt he could ever foresee the huge problem he had helped create, with the advent of modern multi-blade disposable razors of today and the multi billion dollar industry created around providing cheap handles and overly expensive refill blades.
